Overview
Meet Me Next Christmas is a romantic comedy for the holiday season and is set to release in 2024. The movie features splendid festive elements alongside a contemporary musical touch. It is directed by Rusty Cundieff alongside co-writers Molly Haldeman and Camilla Rubis. The movie features Christina Milian in the lead role along with Devale Ellis, Kofi Siriboe, and the notable a cappella ensemble, Pentatonix. The film is a festive treat as it combines music, laughter, romance, and a dash of destiny.
The film’s storyline is set in New York City during the enchanting, bustling Christmas season. It follows a young woman who, on a whim, agrees to a promise with a stranger to meet at a concert a year later, provided they are both single. But like all great romantic comedies, the best-laid plans quickly lead off course. The results are a joyous series of holiday-themed blunders which showcase the unplanned love and the magic of Christmas that brings folks together.
Plot Summary
The film begins in an airport’s elegant first-class lounge during the holiday season. Layla, played by Christina Milian, attempts to board a flight to spend the holidays with her boyfriend Tanner. However, due to flight delays, she is stuck in the lounge. While there, she meets two men Teddy and James.
After some fun and flirty banter with James, Layla and he make a whimsical promise. If they are both single by the next Christmas, they will meet at a sold-out Pentatonix concert on Christmas Eve. It is a charming “what if” bet exchanged between strangers. They part without contact details, letting chance decide their next meeting.
Layla recalls the “what if” promise and decides to go to the concert in hopes of running into James. She remembers her Tanner and realizes he has been cheating with her.
The main problem is that the concert is completely sold out.
To keep her promise, Layla embarks on a quest to find a ticket. A year ago, she had met a man in an airport lounge. It turns out, that man, is now Teddy (Devale Ellis), the man who runs the concierge service that she is looking to get help from, Impromptu. With Teddy under pressure to prove himself at work, there is now an added layer of unpredictability to the story. It is now going to be a chaotic Christmas Eve all over New York.
Over the course of the day, they make fashion items and high-end clothing into trading cards, expect people to show them tickets, and even ttake part in dancing to get a ticket. Due to some of the high energy, they even become part of a lip sync holiday and the name is “Snow Ball”. Initially, the name itself is very funny, and honestly, the whole thing sounds fun. Teddy’s over the top and fabulous cousin, Jordy, is the coach for the group, and honestly their version of “Santa Baby” is iconic.
While some people would think that the reason for Teddy’s behavior would be because of James, they would be gratefully mistaken. Teddy’s actions hint that her behavior and thoughts stem from James. She believes the opposite; she believes that there isn’t a soulmate out there and the only one that she can bond with is the one that is adjacent or next to her. This story, in miniature, makes us ponder who in relationships is more delusive.
Ultimately, Layla does come across James, rekindling the potential of their original Christmas promise. This time, things are different. Teddy’s unwavering support, humor, and sincerity have shifted her outlook.
For the Pentatonix concert, Layla runs toward Teddy, who is working backstage as Santa, braving the snow in a red dress. With city lights in the background and Pentatonix performing, the couple kisses in a moment that ties the story together.

Themes and Analysis
Destiny vs. Choice

Holiday Spirit and Community
The film underscores the importance of the holidays by illustrating acts of kindness, connection, and shared moments including the help of strangers and Jordy’s contributions.
