The film in question captures the story of a mother, and her daughter who relocate to New York, only to be marooned in a high octane and unpredictable circumstance.

The story follows the life of Meg Altman, a mother who has recently divorced, and her daughter, Sarah who has a medical condition that needs to be taken care of. In a bid to start afresh, Meg buys a vast townhouse that is located in Manhattan. The townhouse is extremely spacious and boasts the amenity of the owner, a secured hidden Room, the Panic Room. The Panic Room is a reinforced structure, with surveillance monitors, a telephone line, and a ventilation system. It was built by the previous owner for safekeeping in case of an emergency. For Meg and Sarah, this trip marks their first night at their new home, a new home that brings new changes. Unknown to the two, there are now 3 new occupants in the house whose intentions are neither vicious nor benign. They claim to be treasure hunters, and their intentions, as they say, could be gold and hence, hidden by the house’s previous owner.

As the story progresses, Meg feels that the presence of the new occupants, pushes her to gather Sarah and shove them into a panic room, and lock the doors. From this point onward, the narrative hinges upon a series of interlaced mental and emotional equations, as two sides maneuvre to gain the upper hand.

There now follows a horrifying and tense silence. Meg and Sarah are presently trapped in a white panic room, and surrounded by a mental and physical maze that they must overcome. The only tools that are available to them are undiluted intelligence, extreme and visceral courage, and the lack of motivation to fail. The people that surround the panic room face a fundamentally different reality, and in every case this reality has been a problem and they are trying to extract themselves while simultaneously causing as little damage as possible.

Meg’s intense efforts to keep her daughter’s medical needs calm and in check blind her to the rest of the room’s occupants.

With the advancement of time, the story becomes more complicated and the characters undergo multiple changes. Meg demonstrates that she can be protective and resourceful without having to rely just on physical strength, which proves that emotional fortitude and quick thinking are just as important. The confined nature of the house enhances the mood of the story. Instead of being a safe haven, the house becomes an intricate maze with obstacles to triumph over.
